3. Symphoniekonzert – DAS PARADIES

Faust Overture for Orchestra Op. 46

Emilie Mayer
The Faust Overture for Orchestra Op. 46 was composed in the mid-19th century during Mayer’s productive period in Berlin. The work demonstrates her interest in programmatic music and her ability to compose for full orchestra. Like many composers of the Romantic era, Mayer was drawn to the Faust story, which was a popular subject for musical works during this period (as seen in compositions by other composers like Berlioz, Wagner, and Liszt).
Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26

Max Bruch
Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 (1866) is one of the most beloved violin concertos in the repertoire. The work went through several revisions with help from the celebrated violinist Joseph Joachim, who premiered its final version in 1868.
Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56 (“Scottish”)

The Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56, commonly known as the “Scottish Symphony,” was composed by Felix Mendelssohn and completed in 1842. The inspiration for this work came from his visit to Scotland in 1829, specifically when he visited the ruins of Holyrood Chapel in Edinburgh. In a letter, he wrote down a musical phrase that would later become the symphony’s opening theme.
